Venues and Transportation in Vienna
Welcome to Vienna!
GRACEH 2025 takes place at or close to the University of Vienna’s main building. We recommend you take public transport to arrive at our venues – it’s generally the cheapest, easiest and most convenient way to get around in Vienna. The metro line U2 as well as several tram and bus lines run through the station Schottentor, the stop closest to the main building of the University of Vienna. We will meet at the main building both for the initial meet & greet and for many of our panels.
Wien Mobil is the official website and app of the city of Vienna’s public transport operator. It provides accurate information on how to get to and from our venues, when to start your journeys, whether your metro is going to be on time, etc. Additionally, you can buy your tickets via Wien Mobil. Alternatively, you can of course use Google Maps to plan your trips and buy your tickets at a ticket machine. Check out your ticket options: It might be the best option to use several single tickets (1,20 € per ticket) or a 24/48/72 hour pass (8 €/14,10 €/17,10 € for 24/48/72 hours).
Be careful if you purchase a paper ticket at a ticket machine: You need to stamp it to validate it. You can find the ticket stampers onboard trams and busses and at the barriers before entering a metro station.
Our Venues at the University of Vienna
The following map shows our venues at the University of Vienna. As you can see, all venues are located reasonably close to the station Schottentor (circle in red) and are very easy to reach from there.
The Main Building of the University of Vienna
It’s not hard to find our conference venues within the main building of the university. They are all on the first floor and right next to each other. Please follow the signs we provide for you.
We will meet in the Seminarraum Geschichte 1 on the first floor of the main building of the University of Vienna on Monday morning. Later, we will split up for our panels: One group will stay in the main building (Direktionszimmer IÖG), the other group will walk over to a university building at Schenkenstraße (Seminarraum Schenkenstraße). Don’t worry: We will help you to find your way. We will have lunch at Café Caspar on Monday and Tuesday – it’s right next to the main building. Our keynotes will be held on Monday and Tuesday at the University’s Aula am Campus which has a very pretty park right next to it. We’re looking forward to chat with you and get to know you at the reception after the keynotes. Finally, on Wednesday, we will take a tram together and travel to the Wien Museum at Karlsplatz to have lunch at Trude & Töchter, to visit a fantastic exhibition and for our concluding remarks.
As already mentioned, the venue for our first meeting is the Seminarraum Geschichte 1 (circle in green). It’s on the first floor and on the right side of the main building. One of our panel locations is right next to it. It’s part of the Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung (circle in blue) on the upper right corner of the map.
Please don’t hesitate to ask for directions (also a second or third time if necessary). We will be very happy to assist you.
Meals and Museum
No conference is complete without delicious food, nice get-togethers and the option to visit a bit of the host city – or so we think.
As part of GRACEH 2025, we will have lunch at Café Caspar on Monday and Tuesday. In the evenings, we’re looking forward to getting to know you over some finger food and nice Austrian wine. Finally, on Wednesday, we will enjoy a meal at Trude & Töchter at Karlsplatz before we visit the exhibition “Mixed. Diverse Geschichten” at the newly re-opened Wien Museum.
The restaurants will provide us with delicious food and drinks that will cater to a number of dietary needs and preferences. If you have specific dietary requirements that are not yet considered in our meal plan, please contact us. We will do our best to accommodate you.
To make sure we all have a fantastic time together, we need to plan ahead. Please register for your preferred lunch options and the visit of the exhibition at Wien Museum before April 4th.
